Spartak Moscow player charged over racist incident with Liverpool's Brewster

UEFA followed up Liverpool's complaint by charging Spartak Moscow player Leonid Mironov with racist behaviour during a UEFA Youth League match this week.

The charge stems from an allegation made by Liverpool youth player Rhian Brewster, who had to be restrained at the final whistle of Wednesday's match, presumably, after a racist remark was directed at him.

A statement on UEFA's website read:

Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Youth League group stage match between Liverpool FC Youth and FC Spartak Moskva Youth (2-0), played on 6 December in England.

The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case, and a date for the hearing will be determined at a later date.

Brewster's teammate Bobby Adekanye was the target of a similar incident where he was racially abused by a Spartak player during a match in September. The Russian team was later forced to play its next home match behind closed doors.
