Yankees' new manager Boone wants to 'get lost' in the process

Trusting the process has made its way to Major League Baseball.

The New York Yankees welcomed the 33rd manager in franchise history in a press conference Wednesday, and Aaron Boone preached a new-school approach while acknowledging he'll be evaluated by old-school metrics.

"I'm going to be judged on wins and losses," Boone said, according to Andrew Marchand of ESPN. "I think I'll be, as a manager, someone who isn't chasing after wins every day. I want to get lost into the process."

Despite Boone's big-picture approach, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner reiterated that the team's definition of success is "winning world championships."

"I understand the expectations," Boone continued. "When you look at our roster, when you look at the young players we have, when you look at the farm system we have, when you look at the success they enjoyed last year, I understand what I signed up for."

The ex-player and former ESPN color commentator was hired to manage the Yankees despite having no coaching experience at any level.

The 44-year-old Boone inherits a Yankees club that won 91 games in 2017, and came within one win of a World Series berth before losing to the eventual champion Houston Astros.
