One team's loss is another's gain.

The Los Angeles Angels have agreed to terms on a contract with 17-year-old shortstop Kevin Maitan worth $2.2 million, according to MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez. Maitan was considered the top prospect the Atlanta Braves lost after violating international signing rules.

The Angels, who've had one of the weaker prospect pools in baseball, can apparently use next year's allotment of international signing money, according to the Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher. While he became a free agent after the Braves were punished, Maitan remained subject to the league's international bonus pool restrictions.

The Angels recently added $1.21 million in bonus pool money after they acquired reliever Jim Johnson from the Braves. They were also announced as one of the seven finalists to land Shohei Ohtani. The ability to use next year's funds on Maitan would be a boon if they remain in on the two-way Japanese star.

Maitan struggled in 2017, batting .241/.290/.340 across 42 games in two rookie-ball leagues in the Braves' system.

Maitan wasn't the only former Braves prospect to find a new home Tuesday, as Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reported the Angels also signed shortstop Livan Soto for $850,000.

Sanchez also reported that the Kansas City Royals signed 18-year-old pitcher Yefri del Rosario to a $650,000 deal earlier Tuesday, while catcher Abrahan Gutierrez joined the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
