Report: Sumlin no longer top candidate for UCF

John Gutierrez / USA TODAY Sports

Former Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin is no longer the top candidate for UCF, a source told the Orlando Sentinel's Shannon Green.

Sumlin may still be in the mix, but his reported hesitancy to accept the Knights' offer allegedly prompted the school to explore other options. Sumlin is rumored to be monitoring the Oregon situation, where Willie Taggart has been mentioned as a possibility to take the Florida State job. That would open up the Ducks' position.

Sumlin was previously reported to have emerged as the leading candidate for the UCF gig, and at one point appeared close to striking a deal. The Knights are searching for Scott Frost's replacement after he parlayed a 12-0 season into a job at Nebraska, his alma mater.

Sumlin went 51-26 over six seasons at Texas A&M, and posted a 35-17 mark over four campaigns at Houston before that.
