Omar Vizquel, the venerated shortstop who will appear on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time in 2018, was named on Monday the new manager for the Winston-Salem Dash, the Chicago White Sox affiliate in the High-A Carolina League.

Vizquel, a two-time All-Star who earned 11 Gold Glove awards throughout his 24 big-league seasons, spent two years with the White Sox toward the end of his playing career, appearing in 166 games with the club from 2010-11.

For the past three seasons, Vizquel has held various coaching positions with the Detroit Tigers, and the 50-year-old managed Team Venezuela at the 2017 World Baseball Classic, too. Earlier this offseason, Vizquel had interviewed for the Tigers' vacant managerial position that ultimately went to Ron Gardenhire.

"We are excited for Omar to rejoin the White Sox organization as our Winston-Salem manager," Chris Getz, the White Sox director of player development, told Vinnie Duber of NBCSports. "He has a wealth of experience and knowledge gained through an impressively lengthy baseball career. Omar is passionate about teaching the game, and we look forward to having him help with the development of the next generation of White Sox players."
