Herm Edwards' return to coaching will soon become official, as Doug Haller of the Arizona Republic reports that Arizona State will introduce the 63-year-old as its new head coach Monday.

His hire is an absolutely stunning move, as Edwards hasn't coached at any level since the end of the 2008 season with the Kansas City Chiefs. He hasn't coached at the collegiate level since 1989 when he served as a defensive backs coach at San Jose State.

While Edwards certainly doesn't have much experience in the college game, he's very familiar with Sun Devils athletic director Ray Anderson, who worked as Edwards' agent during his coaching career.

Edwards was 54-74 in his NFL coaching career, including a dismal 6-26 record over his final two seasons with the Chiefs. Anderson and Arizona State are likely betting that Edwards, known for his enthusiasm, will connect with recruits and breathe life in to the program.

Todd Graham was dismissed by the school at the conclusion of the 2017 regular season, but will coach the Sun Devils in their bowl game on Dec. 29 against NC State.
