Report: Sumlin is UCF's top target to replace Frost

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

Former Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin is UCF's No. 1 target to replace the recently departed Scott Frost, sources told ESPN's Adam Rittenberg and Andrea Adelson.

UCF reportedly wants to find a new head coach quickly and a deal with Sumlin could be reached as soon as Sunday. Sumlin was fired by Texas A&M last Sunday after compiling a 51-26 record in six seasons.

Frost left UCF for his alma mater, Nebraska, on a seven-year, $35-million contract.

While Sumlin's time with the Aggies was a disappointment, he went 3-2 in bowl games and never had a losing season. Also, Sumlin would land in a near-ideal situation, as Frost left a program that's ready to compete for the foreseeable and will have nearly all of its key contributors on offense back for 2018.
