The man with 14 major titles was pleased with his performance in his comeback to competitive golf.

Tiger Woods returned Thursday at the Hero World Challenge after undergoing a fourth back operation in April, posting a 3-under-par 69 to sit three back of the lead.

Here's what Woods had to say after his first competitive round in nearly 10 months:

His thoughts on shooting a 3-under 69:

"I thought I did great," Woods told the Golf Channel. "I hadn't played in a while, after some of the difficulties I've been through. To go out here and just score the way I did ... that was nice. It was fun to get out there and be part of a scorecard again."

On his tee shot that found the fairway at No. 1:

"Had a good tee shot here. Tried to pull it back up against the wind and it took a while for the wind to take it, but it finally took it late and carried over the bunker."

On his lovely 260-yard approach at the third en route to his first birdie:

"2-iron and I just put this thing on a rope. That felt good."

On his first fist pump - after saving par on No. 4:

"I hit a terrible chip against the grain. And I said, 'Well, the hole’s not over yet.' It was nice to make that putt and keep the momentum going."

On whether he was surprised by his Day 1 performance:

"I didn't know what I could do. I've been playing golf, I've played a lot of holes at home, but it's a little different when you have to tee it up in a tournament."
