Oregon State to hire Washington OC Smith as head coach

Oregon State has come to an agreement with Washington offensive coordinator Jonathan Smith that would make him the program's next head coach.

The hiring is contingent on the completion of all university hiring processes.

"We are very excited about having Coach Smith lead our program," vice president and director of athletics Scott Barnes said. "We interviewed several qualified candidates and Coach Smith emerged as our top choice. He brings to Oregon State football an impressive plan to build our program. He has a unique perspective on what it means to be a part of Beaver Nation and to be successful for our student-athletes on and off the field."

Smith is no stranger to Oregon State. He suited up for the Beavers as a four-year starter at quarterback from 1998-2001 and later served as a graduate assistant coach from 2002-03.

The 38-year-old has worked under Chris Petersen at Washington as Huskies offensive coordinator since 2014.
