Report: Tennessee discussed HC vacancy with Purdue's Brohm, no deal in place

Tennessee appears to have shifted gears once again in its head coaching search, as sources told Chris Low of ESPN that university officials have had discussions with Purdue chief Jeff Brohm regarding the vacancy.

Low added later Wednesday that both sides told him no deal is in place and no agreement is close to being completed, although the two parties have had talks.

The development comes after both Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy and Duke boss David Cutcliffe reportedly turned down offers from the Volunteers to instead remain in their respective spots.

Brohm is coming off his first season at Purdue, in which he immediately improved the team's offense and led the Boilermakers to their first bowl-eligible campaign since 2012.

Despite the report, Brohm still appears to be putting in work for Purdue, as evidenced by this tweet from a Boilermakers recruit:

Sources confirmed to ESPN that Tennessee has also had phone conversations with SMU head coach Chad Morris, and has reached out to Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele.
