Report: White Sox, Red Sox actively discussing Jose Abreu
The Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox could hook up for another blockbuster deal this winter.
The teams are reportedly "in active talks" regarding a trade for White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, who adds that Chicago has also talked with other teams.
Abreu has been one of the most consistent and durable first basemen in the majors since breaking into MLB in 2014. He hit .304/.354/.552 with 33 home runs, 43 doubles, and 102 RBIs last season across 156 games.
The Red Sox are in need of a first baseman after losing Mitch Moreland to free agency and are rumored to have interest in Eric Hosmer. Abreu has two years of arbitration eligibility left and would be much cheaper than Hosmer, but would cost the Red Sox pieces in a trade.
Both teams are familiar with one another after completing the biggest trade of last offseason, when Chris Sale went to Boston in exchange for top prospects Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech.
