Only three of the 12 former Atlanta Braves prospects who were declared free agents last week due to international signing violations by the club showed up to Monday's showcase in the Dominican Republic held by Major League Baseball, according to Ben Badler of Baseball America.

Antonio Sucre, Brandol Mezequita, and shortstop Angel Rojas were the only ones who worked out in Santo Domingo, with several players opting not to attend because they didn't feel the league gave them sufficient time to prepare for a showcase. Kevin Maitan, the most highly touted of the bunch, was among the absentees.

Beginning next Tuesday, the dozen newly released players - who will keep the signing bonuses they received from the Braves - will be eligible to sign with the 29 other teams (with the league stipulating that the first $200,000 each club spends on one or more of these prospects will not count against their international signing bonus pool).

Any player who signs after this special signing period expires Jan. 15, however, is ineligible to receive another signing bonus. Players wishing to re-sign with the Braves can't do so until May 1, meanwhile, and are also prohibited from receiving a second bonus.
