Despite widespread belief that he'll be fired in the coming days, embattled coach Mike Riley insisted Friday he has Nebraska headed in the right direction.

"I truly believe I'm exactly the right person to do this," Riley told reporters after losing 56-14 against Iowa to finish the season, courtesy TJ Eck of 1011 Sports. "The football parts, I've been doing it so long we know how to fix, and we also are doing a good job recruiting. And those two things are going to be the key to Nebraska getting back to where everybody wants to go."

Riley was scrutinized all year as the Cornhuskers struggled to a 4-8 record - his worst mark in three years with the program. He's 19-19 overall at Nebraska, but 6-12 in his last 18 contests dating back to last season.

Nebraska changed athletic directors midseason, seemingly making it a long shot for Riley to retain his job after the subpar performances by his team.

He previously enjoyed a lengthy run at Oregon State before taking his talents to Lincoln.
