Arkansas fires head coach Bret Bielema

Arkansas announced the firing of head coach Bret Bielema on Friday, minutes after the Razorbacks suffered a season-ending loss to Missouri.

"During the course of the past five seasons, we have not been able to sustain the success on the field that is expected and required at the University of Arkansas," interim athletic director Julie Cromer Peoples said in a statement.

Bielema came to Fayetteville ahead of the 2013 campaign as a big-time hire from Wisconsin, where he was coming off three straight Big Ten championships with the Badgers.

He appeared to have the Razorbacks on the right track early in his tenure, going from three wins in 2013 to seven in 2014 and then eight in 2015, but regressed to seven wins last season and just four this year.

Bielema posted an 11-29 record in SEC play over his five campaigns at Arkansas.
