Chairman Kirby Hocutt defended the College Football Playoff selection committee Tuesday for swapping Miami and Clemson in the latest rankings, days after both registered sizable wins.

When asked to justify the adjusted rankings, Hocutt commended the No. 2 Hurricanes for overcoming a pair of 14-point deficits vs. Virginia, suggesting Miami wasn't penalized for digging itself those holes in the first place.

Miami wound up whacking the Cavaliers, scoring 30 unanswered points down the stretch to secure a 44-28 victory.

On the other hand, Clemson was demoted to No. 3 on the heels of a 61-3 triumph over FCS foe The Citadel.

Miami and Clemson will meet in the ACC championship game in a couple weeks, where the winner will be assured entry into the playoff, while the loser will likely be sent elsewhere.
