Report: Werdum issued assault summons over altercation with Covington
Warning: Video contains coarse language
UFC heavyweight Fabricio Werdum has reportedly been issued a summons for general assault following a physical altercation with welterweight Colby Covington in Sydney on Wednesday, according to Australia's Nine News.
The New South Wales Police Force addressed the incident without mentioning either fighter by name on Thursday, stating Werdum was expected to appear in court on Dec. 13 in a statement since deleted from its Facebook page.
Covington had traveled to Sydney as a guest fighter for Saturday's UFC Fight Night 121 - where Werdum faces Marcin Tybura in the main event - but has been sent home early in wake of this week's fiasco, MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani reports.
According to multiple reports, Werdum claims Covington instigated the altercation as they crossed paths with culturally insensitive comments akin to those he bellowed in Brazil following his October win over Demian Maia.
Werdum - a Brazilian native - reportedly took umbrage to the remark, while Covington made it physical by allegedly kicking him. Things soon took a turn for the worse, as the two exchanged words outside before Werdum whipped what appeared to be a boomerang at Covington's face:

Covington soon released a video of he and Werdum continuing to have words as he was retreating in the immediate aftermath. The welterweight claimed the Brazilian had punched him in the face - an allegation Werdum has denied - and can be seen hurling a bevy of insults at the heavyweight, including a gay slur and more comments condemning Werdum's home country:
The 29-year-old Covington later told MMA Fighting's Marc Raimondi that he was pressing charges over the incident.
The UFC has released a statement regarding the matter (courtesy of MMAjunkie):
UFC was made aware of the altercation between Fabricio Werdum and Colby Covington at the organization’s host hotel in Sydney, Australia. The organization will conduct a full investigation to determine if the Athlete Conduct Policy was violated before taking any further action on this matter.
Werdum's bout with Tybura does not appear to be in jeopardy at the moment.
