Petitioner thinks HS mascot's name sounds too much like male anatomy

A new high school in Utah is being asked to change its mascot because one man think it will make a mockery of the school.

Kyle Fraughton launched a petition on Change.org calling for Farmington High School - which is set to open in fall 2018 - to reconsider using the phoenix as its mascot. He's concerned that when pluralized, it sounds "far too close to the word penises."

"I looked on Google and a couple hits down I saw that the plural of phoenix was either phoenixes or phoenices," Fraughton told Benjamin Wood of the Salt Lake Tribune. "I have no interest in my daughter or my son playing sports and getting referred to as something like a penis."

As of Wednesday afternoon, over 3,100 people have signed the petition.
