Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Chase Utley spoke at the memorial service of his former teammate Roy Halladay on Tuesday, offering a heartfelt tribute to Halladay's wife Brandy and the pitcher's two sons, Braden and Ryan.
"Braden and Ryan, we talked a lot about you - you guys were a little bit shorter back then when we were talking about you. Your dad was the best teammate I've ever played with, the most fierce competitor I've ever seen," Utley said.
"I'm sure all your lives you've heard people praise your dad, tell you how proud they were of him, but throughout the conversations that I've had with him, he was more proud of what you guys have accomplished than what he ever accomplished on the field. Brandy, Braden, and Ryan, thank you for sharing him with us."
Former Philadelphia Phillies ace Cole Hamels, another ex-teammate of Utley and Halladay, spoke at the service as well. The three played together for four seasons in Philadelphia, advancing to the postseason in 2010 and 2011.
