Thunder's George on his birthday gift for Westbrook: 'I got him 37'
Paul George is the gift that keeps on giving.
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook celebrated his 29th birthday on Sunday, and to commemorate the occasion, George gave his teammate one of his better individual performances of the season, leading to a second win in a row for their squad.
"I got him 37 (points)," said George following Oklahoma City's convincing 112-99 victory over the Dallas Mavericks at Chesapeake Energy Arena, according to ESPN's Royce Young.
George's 37 points came on an efficient 12-of-22 shooting from the field, 7-of-12 from 3-point range, and 6-of-7 at the free-throw line in 42 minutes of action. He also grabbed eight rebounds, dished out five assists, and stole the ball twice.
The third member of their Big Three, Carmelo Anthony, was unavailable due to a sore back. What did Anthony's late scratch from the lineup mean for George on this night?
"More shots," he said, jokingly.
Westbrook, the birthday boy, added 27 points, six boards, and five dimes for Oklahoma City, who was also without the services of center Steven Adams.
The Thunder improved to 6-7, and will now have a few days off before hosting the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.
