Moyes assures Hernandez won't be excluded at West Ham

West Ham United's appointment of David Moyes was a safety-first hiring, made with the idea of avoiding relegation rather than competing for silverware. There won't be much innovation at London Stadium under the Scottish manager, and the Hammers' supporters can expect to see risk-free football.

It remains to be seen how, or if, Javier Hernandez fits into Moyes' plans, but it's unlikely that Chicharito will be confined to West Ham's bench, as he was when the pair worked together at Manchester United.

"He's a top goalscorer, a brilliant finisher," Moyes said on Saturday, according to the Guardian's Simon Burnton. "It was difficult for him at United because I had Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Shinji Kagawa, so there was lots of competition. But he'll be treated the same here - if he's playing well and scoring, no problems. If he's not, it will be the same as the rest."

On Friday, Moyes declared that it's a fresh start for West Ham's squad, saying: "It's a clean slate."

In 2013-14, Hernandez started six Premier League games and two matches in the Champions League, leading the product of Chivas to say that United "don't take me much into account."

Moyes' debut as West Ham manager will be made as the Hammers pop by Watford in the Premier League.
