Boras likens J.D. Martinez to King Kong
J.D. Martinez recently switched sporting agencies by opting to join Scott Boras, and the super-agent further attempted to boost his client's stock in the early stages of free agency.
Boras compared the outfielder's offensive pedigree to that of fictional character King Kong on Friday, specifically touching on the 30-year-old's incredible 2017 season that saw him hit .303/.376/.690 with a career-high 45 home runs.
"High atop the MLB Empire rests the King Kong of Slug, a 50-point lead," Boras told Jon Morosi of MLB Network, referring to Martinez's pace with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
"That’s how dominant J.D. Kong is."

Regardless of the odd comparison, Martinez will be heavily courted this offseason and is all but guaranteed to command, and eventually settle on a record-setting contract.
After being acquired by the Diamondbacks at the trade deadline, Martinez hit an incredible 29 home runs in only 62 games down the stretch with a marvelous .302/.366/.741, eventually finishing the season with 166 wRC+.
