Porzingis: Streak 'means nothing' if Knicks don't make playoffs

The New York Knicks have won six of seven, and Kristaps Porzingis is on fire. He knows it's still early however, and is trying to temper some of the hyperbole that's suddenly swirling around Madison Square Garden.

"The sweetest thing for us, the best thing for us, will be to make the playoffs," Porzingis said after New York's 118-113 win over the Charlotte Hornets, according to ESPN's Ian Begley. "This means nothing."

Having fully inherited the team's scoring mantle from Carmelo Anthony, Porzingis has established himself as one of the NBA's best in the early going. On Tuesday he set the Knicks' franchise scoring record through 10 games to open a season, surpassing names such as Bernard King and Patrick Ewing.

Still, the playoffs remain a long shot with 72 games left and a roster that's thin on standout talent behind the young Latvian. Porzingis currently leads the league in usage percentage (35.7 per NBA Stats).

He remains optimistic, however.

"If we can keep winning and I keep doing what I have to do, then the real reward will come," Porzingis said.
