Former Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay died Tuesday at the age of 40 after crashing his plane into the Gulf of Mexico.

The sudden and shocking death of the two-time Cy Young winner devastated the baseball world and left many grieving the loss of the hard-throwing right-hander known as "Doc."

Halladay retired after the 2013 season with a career 3.38 ERA while amassing 203 wins, 2,117 strikeouts, and 67 complete games during a 16-year big-league career.

He threw the 20th perfect game in MLB history on May 29, 2010 and on Oct. 6, 2010, tossed just the second no-hitter in postseason history.
