Rick Neuheisel interested in Oregon State coaching job

Two stints in the Pac-12 evidently wasn't enough for Rick Neuheisel, who told The Oregonian's John Canzano on Wednesday he's "always" interested in the Oregon State coaching job.

"They need somebody who can recruit the state of California. That has to be first and foremost," Neuheisel said of the struggling Beavers. "They have to go down there and find the guys who Mike Riley and Dennis Erickson got ... someone who is going to harvest all that talent."

Neuheisel has been out of coaching since being fired from UCLA at the end of the 2011 season. It was his fourth campaign with the Bruins, during which he went 21-29. The 56-year-old also spent four seasons at Washington from 1999-2002, and led Colorado when the Buffaloes were in the Big 12 from 1995-98.

Oregon State is set to finish the season under interim coach Cory Hall, who didn't seem impressed with Neuheisel declaring his interest in the job.

The Beavers, who had Gary Andersen step down as head coach on Oct. 9, are preparing to take a 1-7 record into a Saturday affair with Cal.
