Fredrik Sandberg / Reuters
Summer transfer spending reached new heights this year, with Premiere League clubs doling out a record £1.4 billion - a 22 percent rise from 2016.
In this study from giffgaff Money, the statistics of this year's biggest transfers were compared to their legendary counterparts at the same age to determine how much classic footballers would be worth in today's market. If players won the Ballon d'Or by the time they reached the study's sample age, their transfer fee was boosted by 36.6 percent.
