The Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly decided who will fill their managerial vacancy, and Gabe Kapler will become the club's 54th manager, according to Matt Gelb of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Kapler, 42, currently serves as director of player development for the Los Angeles Dodgers after losing out to Dave Roberts in the Dodgers' last search for a skipper.

The Phillies' hunt for a new manager has taken some twists since they reassigned Pete Mackanin to a front-office role after the end of the 2017 season.

First, it seemed like Triple-A manager Dusty Wathan would get the promotion. Then, recently ousted Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell was said to be leading the list of external candidates.

However, Heyman reports that Philadelphia chose Kapler on Sunday and could announce hiring him as soon as Monday. Alternatively, the team may wait until the World Series concludes.
