Former WWE Superstar Davey Boy Smith Jr. credits his years of grappling for helping to save a woman from jumping off a bridge Sunday in Calgary.

Smith, who wrestled under the ring name David Hart Smith during his WWE tenure, explained on Facebook that he was driving when he noticed a crying woman hanging off a bridge. He pulled over and tried to speak with her, but she threatened to jump if he came closer.

"With people on the ground waving her not to jump I decided to grab a hold of her and not take any chances," he wrote. "She started to slide and want to go more as I grabbed a hold her. Luckily my years of grappling and self defense I knew how to grab her HARD and how to pull her up from hanging off and jumping."

Smith held the woman until police arrived and told her, "life is a precious thing and I'm here to help to help you."

Calgary police confirmed to Melissa Gilligan from Global News that the incident unfolded just as Smith described, and that the woman was apprehended on a mental health warrant and taken to a hospital.
