Bernardo Silva escapes punishment after diving accusations vs. Burnley

Bernardo Silva will not serve a retrospective ban after being accused of diving in Saturday's 3-0 defeat of Burnley, an FA spokesperson confirmed Monday.

Manchester City's new boy was given his second league start of the season in the weekend test, and appeared to dramatically flop to the turf when goalkeeper Nick Pope tried to stop his run during the first half. Referee Roger East awarded a penalty for Silva's fall, which was converted by Sergio Aguero to equal the club's all-time scoring record.

After the match, Burnley manager Sean Dyche said the awarding of a spot kick came at a critical time in the match - the score was deadlocked at 0-0 - and joked: "If I kicked my kid in the garden he wouldn't fall like that."

Silva saw the incident differently, saying: "He clearly touched me, I felt it. I haven't seen the replay yet but I think it was a penalty," according to Stuart Brennan of the Manchester Evening News.

The Portuguese attacking midfielder escaping punishment means he's in contention to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in Tuesday's League Cup meeting at the Etihad Stadium. Wolves are currently top of the Championship and boast the likes of Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, and Leo Bonatini in their ranks.
