Rose says Monroe deserved flagrant for foul that hurt ankle
Derrick Rose isn't pleased that Greg Monroe didn't get whistled for a flagrant on a foul Friday that ended up with Rose out of the game with a turned left ankle.
"I think I'm the only person in the league that's not getting a flagrant for that call, bro," the Cavaliers point guard said after a 116-97 win over the Bucks, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "Come on, man. Like, I'm sure I'm the only player, but it is what it is. ... That's a common foul. Wow. Come on."
Monroe effectively clotheslined Rose, and deliberate or not, it's the type of NBA play that's been whistled for at least a flagrant-1 in the past. Rose now awaits news on the ankle, with Cavs coach Tyronn Lue saying Friday night that the injury "doesn't look good."
Rose's teammate Dwyane Wade agreed the foul was flagrant.
"I ain't got calls in the last seven years, so I definitely understand what he's talking about," Wade said. "It's unfortunate, a guy goes down and he can't protect himself. From what we're told, as players, if they go around the neck it's automatic."
If Rose misses time, Lue said he would likely start Jose Calderon at point guard to avoid distrupting the team's rotation, according to McMenamin.
