Hernandez's record night earns Puerto Rico $1M donation from Dodgers owner

Not only did Enrique Hernandez's legendary home run hat trick help send the Los Angeles Dodgers into the World Series, it will also significantly benefit his homeland.

Prior to Thursday's winner-take-all Game 5 against the Chicago Cubs, Dodgers owner Mark Walter had promised Hernandez he would donate $1 million in relief aid to Puerto Rico if the utility man managed to make it on base twice in the contest, according to NBC LA's Michael J. Duarte.

Hernandez would go on to shatter that benchmark, as he added a walk to go with his three home runs. It's the first time this postseason that the 26-year-old has gotten on base twice in one game, courtesy of Baseball Reference. He also became just the 10th player in history to hit three home runs in a single postseason contest.

Puerto Rico, a United States territory situated in the Caribbean, is still recovering from the disastrous impact of Hurricane Maria that tore through the island one month ago and completely demolished hundreds of homes. According to CNN's John D. Sutter, more than 80 percent of the island is still without power and approximately 1 million residents still don't have reliable drinking water.
