"Homer at the Bat," the iconic 1992 episode of The Simpsons that brought together a coterie of MLB stars for an indelible half-hour of television, will be commemorated Sunday in a Simpsons-produced meta-mockumentary called "Springfield of Dreams: The Legend of Homer Simpson."

The hour-long special - set to air either before or after the early block of NFL games, depending on the market - will bring back lots of familiar faces from the unforgettable episode, including Jose Canseco, Steve Sax, and Hall-of-Famer Wade Boggs, to provide unprecedented insight into the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant softball team's magical run.

''I get asked as much about being on 'The Simpsons' as I do about baseball,'' Sax told the Associated Press in May. ''They don't want to know how it was to hit against Nolan Ryan. They want to know about being on that show.''
