The Denver Nuggets officially signed Richard Jefferson to a reported one-year, $2.3-million deal.

The two sides had been working toward the deal for a few days, but were unable to complete the paperwork and Jefferson's physical in time for the Nuggets' season opener, which they lost to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night.

The Nuggets also had to create a roster spot for the 37-year-old forward, which they did by waiving veteran point guard Jameer Nelson.

Jefferson, who has played 1,301 games (regular season and playoffs) across 16 NBA seasons, averaged 5.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, and one assist in 20.4 minutes per game for the Cleveland Cavaliers last year. The Nuggets are his eighth NBA team.
