Former Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has put his name in the hat and applied for the vacant Leicester City manager job, reports Peter O'Rourke of ESPN FC, adding that the 56-year-old hopes to speak with the club's owners about the role.

The Foxes are hunting for a new boss after firing Craig Shakespeare just four months after appointing him to the permanent position. In the interim, Michael Appleton will take the helm, but the club is searching for a high-profile option to take over on a full-time basis, reports O'Rourke.

Names under consideration include former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel and ex-England manager Sam Allardyce, but both reportedly turned down the role, as did Burnley manager Sean Dyche.

"It's not the first time I've been linked," Dyche said. "In a way, you're flattered because it's some form of recognition, but it's a paper story.

He added: "I'm not aware of any approach from anyone in any time here."

Pardew has had managerial stints at clubs like Newcastle, Southampton, and West Ham, and has served as a media pundit since his sacking from Crystal Palace in December.

He has also courted a bit of controversy during his time on the Premier League sidelines, sharing bouts with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and earning a fine for headbutting Hull City's David Meyler in 2014.
