Oxlade-Chamberlain: 'I'm just ready for when I get the opportunity'

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is preaching patience.

On Tuesday, the 24-year-old tallied his first goal for Liverpool, taking the pitch as a second-half substitute before finding the back of the net in the Reds' 7-0 Champions League victory at NK Maribor. The game, which was laughably one-sided, marked the English winger's eighth appearance in all competitions under Jurgen Klopp, of which only one was a start.

Speaking after the game, Oxlade-Chamberlain acknowledged that he must be patient at Liverpool and continue to learn the Reds' style of play.

"It's a competitive team that I've come in to," he said, according to the Guardian's Andy Hunter. "We're in an important part of the season where we want to get off to a good start and we've got a few results that haven't gone our way. Everyone's fighting for their place and I'm just ready for when I get the opportunity. I need to keep developing and learning a new style of play here and get used to that and then whenever I get my opportunities, try to do as well as I can."

Oxlade-Chamberlain's goal came in the 86th minute and was as easy as they come. The product of Southampton collected a pass from Daniel Sturridge and merely needed to tap the ball past Jasmin Handanovic due to some shambolic defending.

Klopp claimed after the final whistle that Oxlade-Chamberlain's goal would help the footballer's confidence and "open his chest."
