Nebraska's new AD mum on Mike Riley's future

Bill Moos offered Mike Riley his support, but stopped short of giving the embattled coach a public vote of confidence while being introduced Sunday as Nebraska's new athletic director.

"As we speak right now, he's my football coach and I'm going to support him," Moos said at his first Nebraska press conference, according to Brian Rosenthal of the Lincoln Journal Star.

Riley is believed to be on the hot seat as he gets deeper into his third season with the Cornhuskers. The 64-year-old owns a pedestrian 18-15 record at Nebraska, and the program appears to be trending in the wrong direction. Riley's team got shellacked 56-14 by Ohio State on Saturday, and is 3-4 this season.

"The resources are here, the facilities are here," Moos said, noting his high expectations for Nebraska's athletic programs.

"That hasn't been the case everywhere I've been," the former Washington State athletic director added.

Riley, who signed a one-year extension earlier this year, is under contract through the 2020 season.
