Steele repeats at Safeway Open for 3rd career PGA Tour victory

Brendan Steele closed with a final-round 69 on Sunday to finish at 15-under for the week, claiming the Safeway Open for the second straight year.

Steele held off Tony Finau by two strokes in the PGA Tour's first event of the 2017-18 season, winning his third career Tour title.

Phil Mickelson manufactured a late Sunday charge, but wound up finishing in a tie for third place with Chesson Hadley at 12-under par. Tyler Duncan, who held the 54-hole lead, shot a 3-over-par 75, and tied for fifth position with Graham DeLaet at 11-under.

With the victory, Steele earned $1.116 million and 500 FedEx Cup points.
