Golf has been played at St. Andrews for over six centuries, so the Old Course holds a special place in the hearts for those who play the game.

The Old Course at St. Andrews, however, was torched Sunday in the final round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Ross Fisher set the course record, posting an 11-under-par 61, Victor Dubuisson carded a 63, while 17 others fired rounds of 67 or better.

The results caught the eye of nine-time major champion, Gary Player, who wrote he was "sad" to see the kind of scores recorded on the hallowed ground.

One follower replied to the South African's statement, citing ideal weather conditions had more to do with the low scoring, rather than technology. Player responded by writing, "Perhaps ... but why did it take over 200 years for the course record to be broken several times this week?"
