Georgia Tech's Shawn Davis: Starting placekicker - for now

Coach Paul Johnson stated Wednesday that Davis will serve as Georgia Tech's starting placekicker moving forward, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis:

Davis had a rough start to the 2017 season, making all five of his PATs, but missing a pair of field goal attempts in Georgia Tech's overtime loss to Tennessee on Sept. 4. Since then, the sophomore has made both of his subsequent field goals (34 and 21 yards, respectively) and 11-of-12 extra points. Such production will - at least, for now - leave Davis handling placekicking duties for the Yellow Jackets. Still, should he struggle to any significant degree, expect to find Johnson turning instead to freshman Brenton King.
