SEC donates $100K to Florida, Texas A&M for hurricane relief

The SEC is donating $100,000 to both Texas A&M and Florida to help with the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, the conference announced Wednesday.

"The SEC consists of 14 institutions who compete fiercely in stadiums and arenas, but who come together during times of need," commissioner Greg Sankey said. "Last year the Executive Committee of the Southeastern Conference established parameters for use of an Emergency Relief Fund to assist member institutions in circumstances such as those experienced by members of the Texas A&M and Florida communities. We are pleased to be able to assist with on-going efforts to ease the stress for the students, faculty and staff affected by the devastating storms that impacted the states of Texas and Florida."

Both schools have funds set up to help faculty, staff, and students who were impacted by the storms.

The SEC authorized donations up to $100,000 in 2016 to schools when a disaster is declared a state of emergency.
