Sumlin: Alabama's Fitzpatrick should be Heisman candidate

Kevin Sumlin isn't giving Alabama any bulletin-board material this week.

In fact, the Texas A&M head coach is doing the opposite. Sumlin heaped praise on one of the Crimson Tide's defensive backs.

"Minkah Fitzpatrick, I think, should be not just on the Thorpe Award list or any of that," Sumlin said, according to Matt Zenitz of Al.com. "I think he should be on the Heisman list."

Sumlin knows first-hand what Fitzpatrick is capable of, as the junior has dominated the Aggies in the past. Fitzpatrick posted a pair of pick-6s against Texas A&M in 2015.

"I think he's one of the best players in the country," Sumlin said. "He's played all those positions back there in the secondary. And you can tell he's a frustrated offensive guy because when he gets his hands on the ball, he tries to score every time. Every time he has it."

Fitzpatrick is having another stellar season, recording 23 tackles, three passes defensed, and a sack, while once again making Alabama's defense one of the most vaunted in the country.
