Report: Nationals interviewed Farrell for vacant manager position

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

The search for Dusty Baker's replacement just got a little more interesting.

Recently dismissed from the Boston Red Sox, John Farrell reportedly interviewed for the Washington Nationals' vacant managerial position on Friday, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

Farrell is not necessarily a front runner for the gig, however, as former Chicago Cubs bench coach Dave Martinez is seen as the top candidate.

There may not be much shortage of interest in Farrell's services, as it was reported Thursday that he's among those being considered as the next manager of the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Nationals have not yet reached out to former New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi for an interview, according to MASN Sports' Mark Zuckerman.

Whoever takes the helm of the Nationals will have a very talented roster to play with, but also the added pressure of a franchise that has never won a postseason series. The Nationals have won the NL East four times in six seasons, and have lost in the NLDS each time.
