Nationals' Murphy undergoes right knee surgery

The surprising departure of former Washington Nationals manager Dusty Baker wasn't the only baseball news to come out of the nation's capital on Friday.

Second baseman Daniel Murphy underwent right knee surgery and there is no timetable for his return.

The 32-year-old had a procedure to repair the articular cartilage in his knee and his rehab will begin immediately, according to MLB.com's Jamal Collier.

During his second campaign with the Nationals, Murphy appeared in 144 games, posting a .322/.384/.534 slash line with 23 home runs and 93 RBIs, including a league-leading 43 doubles.

In his two seasons with Washington, Murphy has proven to be incredibly valuable, posting a .334/.387/.569 line with 48 home runs, 197 RBIs, and 90 doubles.

The three-time All-Star has one year left on his deal with the Nationals, in which he'll make $17.5 million.
