Kings' Randolph: I was 'wrongfully arrested' in marijuana case

Zach Randolph wants to clear the air regarding his arrest in Los Angeles last month.

The Sacramento Kings power forward doesn't believe he did anything wrong when he was arrested and initially charged with felony possession of marijuana and intent to sell, and hopes he can put the incident behind him.

"I’m not speaking a lot about it, but I felt that I was wrongfully arrested," Randolph told Ailene Voisin of the Sacramento Bee. "Things that was put out there wasn’t true. But I don’t want to be a distraction to my team, my organization, so I’m just going to move forward and play basketball."

Reports surfaced earlier this month that Randolph won't face jail time after he pleaded no contest to resisting arrest, with prosecutors agreeing to drop his second misdemeanor for possession of more than one ounce of marijuana. He was reportedly sentenced to 150 hours of community service as part of a diversion program.

While the NBA still has the ability to discipline Randolph, the 36-year-old doesn't expect to face any punishment.

"No. I didn’t do anything wrong," Randolph said.

The 6-foot-9 big man averaged 14.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 0.5 steals on 44.9 percent shooting for the Memphis Grizzlies last season.
