Colangelo: Sixers haven't been 'actively shopping' Jahlil Okafor

The 76ers have just 96 minutes to divvy out to their big men each night, which is why there's been speculation the organization will try to move on from 2015 No. 3 pick Jahlil Okafor.

That hasn't been the team's focus this summer, according to president Bryan Colangelo, who said at the team's media day he has "not been actively shopping" Okafor.

As Okafor has shot just 1-for-6 on 3-point attempts in his career and hasn't developed into a passable rim-protector, it's hard for him to play alongside the Sixers' other core players without sacrificing either floor spacing or defense. That logjam might have been part of the reason why the team traded center Nerlens Noel to the Mavericks last season.

If Okafor stays with the team, he'll have stiff competition for playing time. The Sixers have plenty of promising frontcourt players, including 2016-17 Rookie of the Year finalists Joel Embiid and Dario Saric, 2016 No. 1 pick Ben Simmons, small-ball four Robert Covington, and Richaun Holmes. The team has also brought in veterans to provide depth, including Amir Johnson and training camp invitees Kris Humphries and Emeka Okafor (no relation).

As of now, Colangelo says Okafor has still not been cleared for full-court five-on-five action after being plagued by knee issues in his sophomore season.

"Jahlil, as far as I know, will be participating in everything that's tolerated as he gets himself back and ready," Colangelo said. "It's been some time since he's played competitive basketball."
