Mets' Collins: Syndergaard will make another start

Brad Penner / USA TODAY Sports

After just a five-pitch outing Saturday, Terry Collins said Noah Syndergaard will make another start, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

Despite the small workload, Collins and the New York Mets are treating it as a normal start and Syndergaard will wait another five days before his turn in the rotation comes up again. While Syndergaard will return to the mound, a pitch count hasn't been decided.

Saturday's one-inning start against the Washington Nationals was Syndergaard's first since April 30 after being sidelined with a torn lat muscle.

After retiring Trea Turner on two pitches, Jayson Werth laced a single into center field. On the very next pitch, Syndergaard got Daniel Murphy to ground into a double play for a clean frame facing the minimum.

Matt Harvey replaced Syndergaard for the top of the second inning, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over four innings.

In all likelihood, Syndergaard's next scheduled start will be the Mets' last home game of the season - Wednesday's finale against the Atlanta Braves. However, with a doubleheader Monday, Syndergaard may be rested until Friday versus the Philadelphia Phillies.
