Tennessee's Jones: 'Performance was unacceptable' despite win over UMass

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee defeated UMass on Saturday, but Butch Jones wasn't happy about how his team secured the victory.

The Volunteers only escaped with a 17-13 home win and Jones called out the team's performance afterwards.

"We needed to get win No. 3 and we got win No. 3," Jones said, according to Blake Morgan of SEC Country. "Flat-out unacceptable. The performance was unacceptable. It starts first and foremost with me, and it was unacceptable."

Jones also criticized the Volunteers' preparation this week after losing on a Hail Mary to Florida last Saturday.

"Mature football teams can block out the clutter," Jones added. "Everything is about your preparation. Today was the by-product of the week."
