Report: Thunder finalizing deal with Trey Burke

The Oklahoma City Thunder appear to be adding guard depth in the wake of the blockbuster trade that landed them All-Star Carmelo Anthony and cleared up a roster spot.

Trey Burke is in the process of finalizing a non-guaranteed deal to join the Thunder, league sources told The Vertical's Shams Charania.

The 24-year-old Michigan alumnus is entering his fifth year in the league after going ninth overall in the 2013 NBA Draft.

After beginning his career with the Utah Jazz for three seasons, Burke was dealt to the Washington Wizards last summer in exchange for a 2021 second-round pick. He averaged just five points and 1.8 assists on 45.5 percent shooting in a limited role for Washington, his production dwindling after the team brought on Brandon Jennings to back up starter John Wall.

He became an unrestricted free agent after the Wizards chose not to extend him a qualifying offer.

With the Thunder, Burke will compete with Semaj Christon in training camp to be the Thunder's third point guard behind Russell Westbrook and Raymond Felton.
