Sabathia will be 'fine' if Yankees celebrate with alcohol

With 10 games left in the regular season, the New York Yankees are in a fantastic position to make the postseason, either as a wild-card team or a division winner. If they do secure a playoff spot, CC Sabathia says he'll be in the locker room to celebrate, whether alcohol is involved or not.

"I'll be fine," Sabathia, who admitted to struggling with alcohol in 2015 and later entered rehab, told Brendan Kuty of NJ.com.

The veteran left-hander entered a rehab program prior to the 2015 postseason, missing the wild-card game that season after a three-year issue with alcohol. He's since said his recovery has gone well thanks to the Yankees' support, as well as that of his family and friends.

When Kuty asked Sabathia if he would request for his teammates to celebrate with something other than alcohol, as the Texas Rangers did when they drank ginger ale in front of Josh Hamilton - who struggled with his own addiction to alcohol - in 2010, Sabathia said he hadn't.

"No," he said. "I won't be doing that."

The 37-year-old, who's set to become a free agent at the end of the season, has pitched well for New York this year, posting a 12-5 record with a 3.81 ERA across 137 innings, including 110 strikeouts.
