Report: Wizards' Morris to undergo surgery, expected to miss camp

There's never an ideal time to have surgery, but you'd have to think days before the start of training camp has to be right up there as one of the worst for an NBA player.

Washington Wizards forward Markieff Morris will be going under the knife on Friday to repair a sports hernia, and is expected to miss "at least" training camp which gets underway on Sept. 26, according to The Washington Post's Candace Buckner.

He had been experiencing discomfort in the area late into the summer, holding off the surgery as a result of family issues and his current court case for felony assault charges stemming from an incident in 2015.

This will be Morris' second hernia operation, having had one back in 2010 prior to his junior season at Kansas University.

In 76 appearances last season for the 49-33 Wizards, Morris averaged 14 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 steals in 31.2 minutes per game as a starter.

Should he miss time heading into the 2017-18 campaign, Jason Smith would be the most likely candidate to take his place at the four spot.
