For the first time in 493 days, Jack Wilshere has been named to Arsenal's starting XI for a competitive match.

The English midfielder will line up next to Mohamed Elneny as part of a two-man midfield in the Gunners' squad for Wednesday's League Cup visit from Doncaster Rovers.

After last year's loan with Bournemouth ended catastrophically with a broken leg against Tottenham, Wilshere has endured a protracted recovery to first-team duties that culminated in a midweek Europa League substitute's appearance against FC Koln.

His last competitive start for the club was on May 15, 2016 versus Aston Villa, with Wednesday marking a first start this season for both him and fellow fringe England international Calum Chambers.
